What Are High-Value Keywords and Why Do They Matter?

High-value keywords are search terms that offer the best return on investment (ROI) for your content efforts.

These keywords typically have:

  • Highsearch volume: Enough people are searching for them monthly.
  • Low-to-moderate competition: They aren’t dominated by massive authority sites.
  • Commercial or transactional intent: They’re more likely to convert users into customers.

These types of keywords, when applied strategically in your content, can help you:

  • Increase your organic traffic
  • Reach the right audience
  • Improve your search engine rankings

How to Find High-Value Keywords for Website Content

Let’s dive into the methods that will help you uncover valuable keywords with minimal guesswork.

Method 1: Identify the High-value Keywords Your Site is Already Ranking For

Before you go looking for new opportunities, assess your website’s current performance. Chances are, you’re already ranking for some high-value keywords you didn’t even know about. These keywords could be your gems to achieve a better ranking, leading to conversions

By identifying these keywords, you could save time and effort by searching for other keywords that you might already be ranking for. These keywords could be the keywords that are in lower positions but with high search volume and low competition level. This would allow you to work on these keywords to rank higher.

You can also target valuable long-tail keywords, knowing that you are already ranking for the main keywords. For example, you’ve found out that you already ranked for the keyword “reworder,” and you can now target long-tail keywords like “best free reworder online” or “reworder for avoiding plagiarism.”

How to do it:

Now, there are several tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, Und Moz that you can use when finding keywords for your URL that are currently ranking across your website. You may also use Google Search Console to view the queries that drive traffic to your site.

If you are asking how to find the best keywords for a website that you are already ranking for, look for keywords with:

  • Moderate impressions but low CTR — maybe your title/meta can be improved.
  • Low rankings (positions 10-30) — these are great candidates for optimization.

Given the data shown in the image below, reworder has a lower ranking, but if you look at the traffic, it has a lower traffic but high search volume with a business search intent. This keyword is a high-value keyword you could work on to improve its position.

Method 2: Conduct Keyword Research

This method is the most common and the most used method. By conducting keyword research, you can expand your keyword list with intentional research.

The first step in this method is to identify your audience. You should consider asking what the audience needs, their interests, and their search behaviour. By doing so, you can gather all the terms you want to rank for.

Moreover, conducting keyword research isn’t just limited to using an AI. There are other ways to do it — People Also Ask and Google Auto-complete.

You can utilize the Google search when looking for other topics or keywords the users are searching for. For example, when you enter “samsung galaxy s24” in the Google search, it would give you different sources. You just need to scroll down and look for the “People Also Ask” section. The queries or keywords you can find there are also the best possible keywords that would help you to rank better.

Another way you can get your keywords is through the Google Automcomplete feature. It suggests possible search queries as you start typing into the search bar. These suggestions are based on popular searches, your previous search history (if you’re signed in), and trending topics.

The main purpose of Google Autocomplete is to help users complete their searches faster and more efficiently. For example, if you start typing “samsung galaxy s24,” Google might suggest different searches.

For marketers and content creators, Google Autocomplete is a valuable tool for discovering long-tail keywords and understanding what people are searching for.

Remember that when choosing keywords, make sure that they have business or commercial intent.

After you have found all the possible keywords you can use to rank your website, it’s time to check their Suchvolumen, keyword difficulty/competition, CPC (Cost Per Click),  and SERP-Funktionen.

Now, here’s the most interesting part and that is how to determine if the keyword is of high value, and that is through the use of AI. You can use GetGenie to determine high-value keywords effectively and conveniently. This tool also allows you to find untapped keywords.

To do that, use the Erweiterte Keyword-Recherche feature of Getgenie.

This feature will give you data such as search volume and competition level of the keyword you search for. For example, you want to know if the keyword “pros and cons of samsung s24” is a high-value keyword.

Based on the data shown in the image, the keyword has a high search volume with a commercial or transaction intent. Therefore, it is considered as a high-value keyword. But take note that the ideal is having a high-value keyword with low competition level. It gives a higher chance of appearing on the first page of the search results.

Additionally, GetGenie will give you a list of related keywords, NLP keywords, and semantic keywords with search volume and competition level. You can also check the full details of each high-value keyword by clicking on each keyword. It will give you the data that would determine if the keyword is a high-value keyword.

What is so good about this tool is the topical map feature under keyword research. It gives you the subtopics, second-level topics, and even related keywords you can use to structure or outline your content. This will guarantee that your content will get a better opportunity to rank higher in the SERPs.

Pro tips for conducting keyword research:

  • Focus on Long-Tail-Keywords — they’re more specific and usually easier to rank for.
  • Verwenden question-style keywords for blog content, FAQs, and listicles.
  • Check related searches at the bottom of Google’s results for even more ideas.

Method 3: Conduct a Competitive Analysis

Looking at what your competitors are ranking for can uncover keyword opportunities you haven’t thought of yet.

By conducting a competitors’ analysis, you can identify high-value keywords they are ranking for, which you can compare with the keywords list you are ranking.

You can use tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Ubersuggest to conduct competitive analysis.

After you have found your competitors, it’s time to check the keyword differences between your website and the competitors. Look for the commercial keywords that your competitors outrank you.

From the image below, you can see at least 3 high-value keywords GetGenie is ranking for as marked with “C”. However, 2 of them rank lower than competitors. To outrank the competitor, relevant content should be optimized with these keywords in the right area.

You should also take note of these indicators that make a keyword of high value:

  • Search volume: Are people actively searching for this keyword?
  • Keyword difficulty/competition: Can you realistically rank for it?
  • CPC (Cost Per Click): Indicates commercial intent — high CPC usually means the keyword is profitable.
  • SERP-Funktionen: Are there featured snippets, videos, or “People Also Ask” sections?

Method 4: Cluster Your Keywords

Once you’ve gathered a list of keywords, group them into topic clusters. This means creating a main topic supported by subtopics or related keywords.

Why should you do this?

  • Improves internal linking Und SEO structure.
  • Helps Google understand the depth and relevance of your content
  • Increases user engagement by answering related questions

You can use a Google sheet to cluster all your keywords. This will make your clustering job easier.

For example, if your topic cluster is “Samsung S24 AI features” your related keywords might include:

  • Samsung S24 AI photo editing
  • Samsung S24 AI camera features
  • Samsung S24 AI text translation
  • How Samsung S24 uses AI

Once your keywords are grouped into clusters, you can begin crafting content titles using those keywords. This would help you ensure that each piece links back to your main topic that anchors the entire topic.

However, if you utilize the feature of GetGenie, which is keyword research, you can skip this part as the tool offers a topic map that outlines the main keyword up to the relevant keywords where you can base the structure of your content.

What to Do Next — Content Creation

Now that you’ve got your high-valued keywords and clusters, it’s time to create valuable content. For easier content creation, GetGenie offers a Vorlage für den Blog-Assistenten that allows you to write your optimized content effortlessly.

However, if you wish to do your content creation manually or with the use of some command-based tool, here are the tips for you:

  • Match search intent: Make sure your content answers the query.
  • Optimize your headings, meta tags, and content naturally — no keyword stuffing.

Add value: Don’t just repeat what’s already on page one. Offer unique insights, examples, or data.
